Learn our origin story and journey growing the sharing economy in local communities.
Adam operates a booth at the Fremont Farmer's Market in Seattle renting out his own outdoor equipment to test the idea of peer to peer rentals from the community. He has a lending community of 1, him and his gear. This sparks the beginning of a movement, one that chips away at the walls of traditional ownership and paves the path towards a future of shared abundance.
Learnings from the farmer's market give Adam first hand experience in the difficulties of operating brick and mortar rental. He pivots to build and launch an online peer to peer rental marketplace for outdoor gear in the Seattle community. He builds GeerGarage on the side while working a full time job at Microsoft.
The GeerGarage team tests various experiences to make peer to peer rental seamless for hundreds of renters and lenders in the local Seattle market. They do business in the summers and rebuild in the winters based on key learnings.
The Lend to Own program is created to meet the needs of the growing demand of rental orders. Adam makes the leap to pursue GeerGarage full time after a successful summer rental season. GeerGarage's rental experience and software platform is fully validated and ready to scale.
Upon further analysis, the company realizes it can make the most impact by offering its seamless rental solution as a platform for retailers and other organizations instead of competing with them as a direct to consumer business. Truly changing our consumption habits requires all-hands-on-deck - and organizations are an essential part of the equation.
Meet the folks working tirelessly to make sharing happen.
